streetlights spark to life.

Hrishikesh Hirway is nearing completion on his third full-length release. He is a fan of Caribou and The Books and lists among his influences; The Magnetic Fields, Sam Prekop, Prefuse 73, and Neutral Milk Hotel. His two albums are both gentle sweeping mixes of lightly picked and strummed guitar, enchantingly weepy violin and back-up vocals from his partner in crime, Jane Yakowitz, with a soft buzz of drum sequencing and electronics. Acoustic songwriting and electronic music are having the sweetest courtship and you cannot be uninterested in their grandeur. Hrishikesh Hirway is The One AM Radio. The Hum of the Electric Air! as rejoiced and lamented by The One AM Radio and A Name Writ in Water are essential to each of the following of your record collection's sections: Late night drives; The beach in the evening; Candlelit romantic dinners; Not ready to get out of bed on Sunday morning.
I wish it was warmer and I was near a nice beach.
The One AM Radio is for you, in one way or another. This music can be played at an alarmingly low volume on headphones, to perk your ears up and fill your head with vines and puddles produced by a light rain. Then unplug the head phones, slowly turn the volume up to the point where it is everywhere and your body will surely float up and be left suspended on a gentle pulse. This is a feeling that you'll use every wish you could conceivably be granted to have last.
I can't offer you any less than two songs from these two full lengths. I wish I could bestow upon you hours upon hours of this music, but I will hope that you are so captivated that you will find these CDs and give them their proper dues.
Hrishikesh has also released three EPs and four split EPs/7"s, one - surprisingly enough - with Ted Leo / Pharmacists. Hirway also has two Name songs, one Hum song, and his own remix of a Name song on
MySpace.
