i took a train from virginia to illinois, or, come on.

What a wave of gossip and second wave of corrections and apologies that must have washed ashore all over the internet and blogs. Rosie Thomas is a kidder. Denison Witmer is a good wing-man. And Sufjan is not and will not be a poppa (within the next nine months). Blah blah blah. You've read all this thirty times today. As well have you read about the rest of my post today. It's Friday. I'm excited that this week is over. I'm excited about this (related) news and that's all y'need to know.
When legacy-in-the-making Sufjan Stevens initially intended to send out invitations to feel the Illinoise, he anticipated an epic double-album. Double albums are trouble. Ask Nellie McKay. Sufjan decided to trim the 2005 recordings down to just the epic single-album, but went back to his scrapped tracks and patted their heads with his gentle, poetic love. The Avalanche: Outtakes and Extras from the Illinois Album will accompany (and most likely overshadow) Asthmatic Kitty's Shapes & Sizes' debut with a release date of July 11th. This will be in time to dominate the CD player to and from Chicago on the voyage to the Pitchfork Music Fest. Now let's just keep crossing our fingers for Sufjan to become the most fitting addition to the three stage line-up.
The Avalanche will contain one less song than it's life-changing counterpart, but three times the "Chicago." That's right. Three alternate versions of "Chicago." The album will also be released solidly on one date with no reprints, and WILL feature a renderring of the beloved caped man of super powers and super charisma.
I ran into the title/lead-off track a little while back, and am certain you will enjoy it. Also, for your Sufjan b-side pleasure are to Michigan LP bonus cuts. For more on the new album, including a full track listing, head on over to the Asthmatic Kitty page for it. Sufjan and his AK gang have been busy as giant hallucinagenic honey making bees lately.
Now sing with me. One. Two. Three. We were in luh-uh-uhve (Buh da da da dat). We were in luh-uh-uhve (Buh da da da dat).

Those track titles are correct (though, it is spelled 'Pickerel'). They are b-sides from 'Michigan' and were posted briefly on Sufjan's website. They were officially released on the double LP of 'Michigan'. There are actually five b-sides that are on the LP as well as an acoustic version of 'Vito's Ordination Song'.
